How Starkaffea came to be?

Have you ever wondered how Starkaffea Corporation started? Do you know that each cup of Kaffea and Chocolea tells of the endearing story of love, warmth, family and friendship.
As a young coffee aficionado, Cheng Pabilonia, has always dreamt of creating her own coffee. Since all brands in the market have either too strong coffee or table sugar content, Cheng was inspired to concoct a coffee which is not too strong but with all the healthy and quality ingredients that you need in one cup of coffee.
As she finished her Diploma in Sports Science and Exercise at the University of the Philippines, she set up Starkaffea Corporation to produce a coffee drink using coconut sugar as a sweetener. Coconut sugar is classified as a lowest Glycemic Index (GI) food which has the lowest GI of 35 among all types of sugar. Coconut sugar regulates blood sugar levels and blood pressure and is rich in calcium and potassium and helps manage diabetes and boosts the immune system.
With the guidance of her former professors, Cheng made sure that each cup of Kaffea contains nothing but the beset handpicked ingredients. Each cup of Kaffea contains regulated coffee content, non-dairy creamer, agaricus mushroom, collagen, COQ10, gano derma, grape seed extract, glutathione and L-carnitine.
As in the case of other start-ups, Cheng was ably assisted by her family led by her late father, Mr Julian Pabilonia, a newly retired Manager from Asian Terminal Incorporated. Cheng successfully negotiated with a group of farmers from Mindanao to provide her with coconut sugar and other raw materials.
“Starkaffea was born to provide healthy and quality yet delicious drinks to the Filipino families”, Cheng said. “Apart from this, we wanted to help empower coconut sugar farmers who are helping us; our relationship is mutual”.
Daddy Julian, a cool and groovy dad to Cheng and siblings, wasted no time in doing his best to assist his most-loved daughter. He took Cheng to the latter’s appointments and assisted in every way he could in both petty and large tasks, nothing was overwhelming.
When Cheng went to Lucky Chinatown Mall in 2011 to join a bazaar, her father was there first hand to ensure that logistics were complete. Daddy Julian was at the helm of the Kaffea Coffee Shop in St Francis Square which he lovingly attended to from 2011 until 2019.
As Cheng honed her skills and talents as an entrepreneur and fitness coach, people asked for her Starkaffea coffee.
Starkaffea’s community grew. More and more came to know about the benefits of Starkaffea coffee blend with coconut sugar. The coffee became the “message” itself. Words passed around until Cheng was joined by Jonas Yap and eventually a team of 10 other staff.
Fast forward to 2022, another brand, Chocolea chocolate drink with coconut sugar was born. Chocolea was in response to the clamor of Starkaffea community for a chocolate counterpart of Kaffea. The name “Chocolea” originated from the word “choco” short for chocolate and “lea” meaning bringing of good news. Cheng and former Centro Escolar University lecturer, Thelma Gecolea teamed up to produce the chocolate drink.
This year, 2023 brought another milestone. Dr Julian Victor Pabilonia Dupaya, Cheng’s son, came on board as a doctor consultant- on-call of Starkaffea.
A graduate of the University of Sto Tomas batch 2021, Doc JV is a Meritus Awardee. An honor student since his elementary years, he recently passed the examination for occupational health doctors with flying colors. He now ensures the health and wellness of the Starkaffea team.
As Starkaffea is run by Cheng, a woman of substance and strength, all the Pabilonia family have a role in the corporation: Mommy Vicky, Kuya Joey and children, Julian Marco and Jilleana Marie. The team has now grown stronger with Noemi, Anna li, siblings Marissa and Jon, Weng and Alyn joining the Starkaffea family.
Starkaffea will continue to evolve.
